Start with the Equipment and Installation Space

Provide the component envelope, available installation area and required service clearances. Mark operator access, cable connections, external devices and mounting interfaces. If the drawing is still being developed, identify fixed dimensions separately from features that can be adjusted during manufacturability review.

Select Material and Finish

Steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel and aluminum offer different weight, corrosion, appearance and fabrication characteristics. Specify grade, thickness, finish and color rather than requesting only a “metal enclosure.” For projects centered on zinc-coated material, review the galvanized steel electrical enclosure.

Configure Access, Mounting and Thermal Features

Doors, removable panels, locks, mounting plates, rails, brackets and cable-entry plates can be included according to the drawing. Ventilation openings, fans or filters should be coordinated with heat load and any ingress requirement. A ventilated indoor housing and a sealed exposed enclosure require different design decisions.

Production and Quality Review

Fabrication may include laser cutting and bending, welding, finishing and hardware assembly. Critical dimensions, panel fit, door operation and finish can be checked through the quality inspection process.
