Cabinet Sheet Metal Processing Process Design

The role of panel enclosure manufacturers often influences the manufacturability of cabinet components, which refers to how easily workers can machine the parts. A good process uses less material, involves fewer steps, uses simple molds, extends mold life, and keeps product quality steady.

Several key factors affect how easy it is to machine sheet metal. These include the type of material, part shape, size, and accuracy requirements.

As a panel enclosure manufacturer, we focus on the cabinet’s ease of machining during process design. Since we usually don’t mass-produce cabinet parts with forming molds, we must think about machinability when designing each part. We need to understand the machining steps before setting size, tolerance, and technical requirements to make the parts easier to produce. The exact shape and features of each component depend on the machines and methods we use.

In process design, we choose the right materials, machines, and working methods. While CAD software is now common in design, many manufacturers haven’t yet widely adopted CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) tools. Still, we’ve improved a lot by using new technologies in cabinet production. These include cold roll forming for steel, continuous flash butt welding, gas-shielded welding, screw energy storage welding, precise machining for stepped holes, and electrostatic powder coating using toothed rollers.

These advanced methods have helped raise the overall production level of panel enclosure manufacturers in China.

Although process design is often discussed separately from structural design, both should happen at the same time. A practical design must be easy to produce. So when we design the structure, we must also think about how to make it. Besides making machining easier, we must also ensure that the process stays stable. This is important for keeping product quality high.

To do this well, we rely on detailed process documents, which we will discuss in Section 3.
